West Coast Tacos serves at our shelter

Yesterday, after putting in a long night on the truck in Broad Ripple, the West Coast Tacos guys made their way downtown to serve dinner at our Women’s and Children’s Shelter. The guys, proudly wearing their Homelessness Bites tees, served up about 200 of their authentic LA-style tacos to the ladies and children at our shelter as well as some folks who lined up in the alley.
We’d like to thank West Coast Tacos for “doing the most good” and giving of their time and tacos to make it a special night for families who’ve been through a lot. And we can’t forget the generosity of the folks at TKO Graphix (they’re the ones who logo’d up the taco guys’ truck) who presented a collection for the cause and will help make it possible for this kind of event to happen again in the future. Thanks, everyone!
We know you believe in our cause – to help our neighbors in need – and now you know that West Coast Tacos and TKO Graphix do, too. So, check them both out on facebook. Find out where the guys will be serving up tacos next and sample for yourself. You’ll be glad you did!

Our Homelessness Bites campaign is all about encouraging you to find unique ways to give of who you are and what you do to make a difference in the lives of moms and kids who have found themselves homeless because of the economy or domestic violence. Well, Indy, you’re listening.

A special thanks to Nicki Laycoax and Squish Designs for helping us Bite Back! Not only has she been tweeting the cause of Indy’s 1,500 homeless kids, she’s created the official Twitter cause “twibbon“. Which is pretty cool since before I met Nicki, I didn’t know that was possible. See? That’s why Squish Designs can say that they truly develop your business or organization – everything social media from blogs to Twitter to facebook.
And speaking of facebook, due to the diligent promotion from Nicki and Squish (as well as our campaign spokesperson, Mel McMahon, and our own social media intern Deb) we’ve got 450 fans from here to Texas and back! Way to Bite Back!
Target hits bullseye for charities

Are you a “fan” of Target? Well, you should be. They’re using their facebook page to give back to the community. What a great idea!
Visitors to Facebook.com/target will be able to vote for their favorite charity once every 24 hours through May 25. At the end, each charity will receive a percentage of $3 million based on the votes they receive. (We’re currently in second place!)
How are we working with Target? We’re creating libraries at our community centers across the country! The libraries will be available to local communities , including Indianapolis, as a resource center for children and adults to learn and even job search.
Log in to (or join) facebook now and vote for The Salvation Army!
