Apple Fest – October 1, 2009

Join us for the 6th annual Apple Fest on Monument Circle, Thursday October 1.  The event supports Homelessness Bites, The Salvation Army’s campaign to end homelessness.

Applebee’s Restaurants will provide the lunch items and, or course, there will be hot apple cobbler and ice cream for dessert.  Orchard fresh apples will once again be provided by Adrian Orchards.

Be sure to check out our sponsors’ booths, especially WIBC 93.1, B105.7, HANK-FM, and 1070 The Fan, four stations from Emmis Communication who are on board to spread the word this year. Not to mention, we may be taking over a little bit more of the circle this year. Things are growing.

Bandwagon will once again rock the lunchtime crowd with their vast repertoire of classic and current top 40 hits.

Apple Fest is just one part of The Salvation Army’s Homelessness Bites campaign.  1,300 1,500 of Indy’s homeless are children with an average age of 9.  For these kids, homelessness bites.  You can bite back by joining us (and making your friends, family, co-workers, and more come, too) at Apple Fest.

Crystal Flash sinks a hole in one for homeless women & children

Thanks to platinum sponsor, Crystal Flash, this week’s Golf 4 Giving event pulled in a field of golfers and sponsors who came out in support of The Salvation Army’s shelter for women and children. This was the 11th year for the event, this year held at the Golf Club of Indiana.

WISH-TV8‘s Eric Halvorson agreed to host for the second time. “With the current economic difficulty and request for assistance up, I was more than happy to be here and help The Salvation Army help those in need in our community,” said Eric Halvorson.  “The Salvation Army is impacting lives right here in Indianapolis, just as they’ve done for many, many years.”

Last year’s event raised more than $28,000. Read more

Value of Volunteering

click here to volunteerVolunteering is a win-win scenario for business. There’s no down side to getting out there in the community and showing that you care about the things that matter to the people you count on to buy your product or use your service.

While your contributions, your support are vital to the services we can provide, volunteering allows the community to SEE you doing what you say you support. Now, of course, I wouldn’t be telling you how great this is without giving you an opportunity to try it out, right?

Labor Day is just a calendar page away and one of the biggest events of the weekend is Skyconcert. Advantage Health and HANK 97.1 FM have included us as the official charity of the event. Because 30% of Indy’s homeless is families with children, it’s our Labor of Love to collect money at the event to support The Salvation Army’s homeless programs. But we need a lot of help to take this message to the thousands who come downtown to watch the fireworks.

We’re looking for about 200 volunteers to help out by serving as roaming bellringers (using the buddy system!), bellringers at kettle stations, or answering phones at the Emmis Communications phone bank. Basically, we’re asking you to come out to White River State Park, hang out in the crowd, watch the concert, and help us raise all the money we can to end homelessness in our city!

Could your group benefit from a team building exercise? Could your message/your product use a little visability in the Indy market? We’d love to help you out while you help out our neighbors in need! Check out HomelessnessBites.org to see how you can help.
