Americans have opinions. We have causes we care about and we champion them to whoever will listen. But, according to a new survey, it appears not many of us put our passions into action.

Now, anyone can take a survey, and publish it. But this one’s from Porter Novelli (and I learned about it in THE non-profit newspaper). They found that on most issues, just one in 10 Americans had put time or effort toward improving the problems they cared about.

The news is full of reports on recession, and that makes this the best time to give of what you have to help The Salvation Army help those who are really struggling. But even with all of the press about job loss and home foreclosures, only 9% of us had volunteered to feed others, 8% worked to assist the poor and even less, only 7% volunteered to help the homeless! And this was out of 10,000 people interviewed.

So if you’re passionate about those in need in your community – and I’m assuming you are since you’re here – we’ll help you put your passion into action. Elizabeth has plenty of volunteer opportunities for you to dig in and help. And you can check them out here. You can also give her a call at 224-1010. She’d love to here from you!

And if your business is interested in making a difference right here in Indianapolis, give me a call at 224-1019. We all have something to offer. Let’s not let it be just our passion about the cause.
