Love working with kids?

We’re looking for caring adults to spend Monday evenings with the kids at our Women’s and Children’s Shelter as part of “Monday Funday” activity nights. Volunteers will help the kids participate in structured games and activities designed to help them learn to work as a team, understand educational concepts, and most of all – have fun! If you’re interested in helping to shape these young minds on Monday evenings (6pm-9pm), all you have to do is give Julia a call at 224-1067. She’ll get you all set up.
You can find more volunteer opportunities at SAVolunteer.org or by giving Elizabeth (our volunteer coordinator) a call at 224-1010.

Did you know that The Salvation Army earns $7/volunteer hour during events we staff this summer at the speedway? If you’re interested in helping out at the track this year during the Indy 500 or the Brickyard 400, and have never volunteered for The Salvation Army at the IMS, we have two trainings available to get you up to speed. Learn more on our volunteer blog.
Plan now to make a difference in May
We Americans like to do our part – from recycling to volunteering, we try to pitch in and help out in our communities. National Salvation Army week (the week of May 10th) is a perfect opportunity to focus your efforts on making a difference right here in Central Indiana.
During his presidency, Dwight D. Eisenhower stated, “Among Americans, The Salvation Army has long been a symbol of wholehearted dedication to the cause of brotherhood. In time of war, the men and women of this organization have brought to those serving their country far from home, friendliness and warm concern. In the quieter days of peace, their work has been a constant reminder to us all that each of us is neighbor and kin to all Americans, giving freely of themselves, the men and women of The Salvation Army have won the respect of all.”
The week of November 18 – December 4, 1954 was declared by the United Stated Congress and proclaimed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to be the first National Salvation Army Week. Today, the dates have changed, but the work of The Salvation Army that was recognized has not – to serve those in need without discrimination.
So, in celebration of this special week in May, we’ve come up with some tangible ways to get your employees involved in “doing the most good.” Read more
Mom Squad to ring for homeless kids
December 2, 2009 by admin · Leave a Comment
It’s in a mom’s nature to step in when there’s a need – especially if it involves kids. Once again this year, Indy Moms Like Me is joining us during the Christmas season to help raise some funds for our programs at the kettles – theirs is pink, by the way. And also, at our WIBC Radiothon during the Saturday Kids Day on December 12. The Moms are supporting our Homelessness Bites campaign to end homelessness for the 1,500 kids who spend their nights on the streets with their moms due to domestic violence or financial difficulties.
Indy Moms Like Me is a social networking group here in Indy where moms can come together and discuss all things “mom” – from parenting to support groups to volunteer opportunities and recipes.
Are you an Indy Mom? (If not, you can join here) If you are, join The Salvation Army group and encourage others to join us on Monument Circle on Saturday, December 12 to ring bells at the kettles and bring a toy down to donate for Angel Tree.
Putting passion into action

A volunteer delivers a care package to a neighbor in need.
Americans have opinions. We have causes we care about and we champion them to whoever will listen. But, according to a new survey, it appears not many of us put our passions into action.
Now, anyone can take a survey, and publish it. But this one’s from Porter Novelli (and I learned about it in THE non-profit newspaper). They found that on most issues, just one in 10 Americans had put time or effort toward improving the problems they cared about.
The news is full of reports on recession, and that makes this the best time to give of what you have to help The Salvation Army help those who are really struggling. Read more
