WIBC hosts Homelessness Bites at Blue Thursday
September 11, 2009 by kristen
We’d like to give a special shout out of thanks to WIBC 93.1fm for hosting our team from the Homelessness Bites campaign in their tent at Blue Thursday yesterday. We appreciate the opportunity to share the message that 1,500 kids spend at least one night on Indy’s streets each year and invite our neighbors to join us in biting back!
From their prime location in front of Emmis Communications, we spread the word about Apple Fest coming up on Thursday, October 1. And thanks to Adrian Orchards for donating some amazing apples to give away as we passed out Bite Back boxes. When someone takes a little white box and sets it on their desk, counter or dresser and fills it with coins, real change can happen. The donations collected in those boxes will be put to good use in our women’s and children’s shelter. About 85% of the homeless women and children we serve are fleeing domestic violence and looking for a fresh start. At our shelter, they’ll find counseling, life skills classes and all the tools they’ll need to build a new life. Who knew a couple of bucks could make such a difference?
As if that wasn’t enough incentive, when you bring full a Bite Back box to Apple Fest, we’ll give you a sweet reward – a FREE apple cobbler! Couldn’t make it to Blue Thursday? Want a box or two or more? Give Kristen a call at 224-1019 and she’ll make sure you (or your office/team/organization) has as many as you’d like. It’s a practical way to make a difference right here in our city!
